DCU Ryan Academy is delighted to announce the opening of applications for the Creative Minds: Social Entrepreneurship Hackathon. The DCU Ryan Academy in partnership with the US Embassy will welcome 100 young innovators from Ireland, Northern Ireland, and the United States to participate in a social entrepreneurship hackathon weekend from 6th-8th November 2015.
A hackathon is an intense event during which teams comprised of young leaders, designers, developers, and innovators come together to solve a social entrepreneurship challenge. The challenge is to ‘create a social innovation product or service that will improve the lives of young people.’ With the guidance of mentors from leading high-tech and multinational companies, the three-day hackathon will encourage participants to ideate, incubate, network, and create solutions, culminating in a pitch zone competition where groups will present their ideas to an expert panel.
The hackathon will provide a platform for youth to make invaluable connections to Dublin’s entrepreneurial community—and with one another—through mentorship, experiential learning, collaborative teams, and immersing them in the process of moving an idea to market. The goal is to create new relationships and encourage more creative collaborations between young people in Ireland, Northern Ireland and the United States.
Who Should Apply?
Participants aged 18-25 years old, will represent a broad range of backgrounds and skills (not-for-profit/social issues, business development, user experience design, software coding, presentation skills, etc.) to ensure the best possible skills mix and sharing of expertise.
